Texans’ Deshaun Watson To Show For Training Camp, Houston Wants Big Trade Offer For Watson

While the legal troubles of Deshaun Watson are still ongoing, that doesn’t mean that Watson hasn’t been working out and preparing for the 2021 season. Watson is still on his income as well. Per NFL Insider Ian Rapport, Deshaun Watson is expected to report to Texans training camp on Tuesday as teams around the league prepare for the start of training camp. Watson himself also has incentives to want to show up for training camp. For starters, avoiding the $50,000 a day fine would make anyone think twice about not showing up.

Watson’s expected appearance hasn’t changed how he feels about the team either as he is reportedly still looking to get traded away from the team. With Watson’s legal troubles still at the forefront, it may be hard for most teams to try and acquire the talented quarterback. Rumors that the Eagles, Broncos, and even the Dolphins looking to add Watson via trade have been circulating for weeks now. Philly Sports Radio WIP NFL reporter Howard Eskin recently stated that the Eagles have the best shot to land the Texans quarterback as they have the most to offer in terms of draft picks. Remember, the Eagles received a first-round pick from the Miami Dolphins prior to the draft and received a potential first-round pick (dependent on Carson Wentz’s performance) from the Indianapolis Colts.

There’s also the concern of Watson being placed on the commissioners’ exempt list or the possibility of being suspended for the 2021 season, even for its entirety. There’s still plenty of unknowns for teams which puts Watson’s trade value in a state of flux. The Texans themselves have already moved on from Watson, adding Tyrod Taylor and drafting Davis Mills with their 3rd round pick. If there’s any reason for teams to look for Watson via trade, it’s what he was able to do in 2020 as he led the league in passing yards (4,823 yards) while throwing 38 touchdowns even after losing his number one wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins via trade. But for now, Watson’s future is up in the air.

UPDATE

It seems that the Texans front office is having a change of heart when it comes to trading Deshaun Watson. ProFootball Talk’s Mike Florio reports that the Texans are looking for a big trade offer for the former franchise quarterback. In his report, the Texans are looking for a haul with at least three first-round picks plus starting-caliber players to add to the mix. Chris Mortensen also reported that, per two league executives, that the Texans are looking for at least five high draft picks AND starting players.

This deal could be bananas when it’s all said and done.
