As the calendar turns to December and the playoff picture in fantasy leagues around the world begins to take shape, several key starters around the league join the injury report. This week’s injury report features some high profile names that could be MIA for your teams as you try to make a playoff push.
QB Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles – Hurts is reportedly dealing with a sore ankle following Sunday’s heartbreaking divisional loss to the Giants and he could very well be sidelined for next Sunday’s matchup vs. the Jets, which will be followed by the team’s Week 14 bye. Chances are that if he is able to play then he will, as the Eagles are still in the mix for a playoff spot in the crowded NFC wildcard race. Keep tabs if you’re a Hurts owner, as Gardner Minshew will fill in if he can’t go.
Update: Jalen Hurts has been labeled a GTD (Game-time Decision)
QB Daniel Jones, New York Giants – In that same game, Hurts QB counterpart in Jones suffered what appeared to be a strained neck. This puts a cloud on his status ahead of the team’s game against a suddenly rejuvenated and opportunistic Dolphins football team. Jones will likely be limited in the majority of practice this week.
UPDATE: Jones has been listed as week to week and will not play in Week 13 vs. the Dolphins. Mike Glennon will take his place, making the Dolphins D/ST a must-start for Week 13.
RB Christian McCaffrey, Carolina Panthers – Fantasy Football has not been kind to Runningbacks in 2021, and it was just a matter of time before it set its sights on McCaffrey again. CMC will miss the rest of the season with an ankle injury. Some combination of Chuba Hubbard and Ameer Abdullah will attempt to fill in, but the bigger question now is whether McCaffrey who not long ago, was the consensus #1 overall pick in fantasy football, is even worth being selected in the first round going forward after dealing with back to back seasons with a variety of injuiries that landed him on IR.
RB Dalvin Cook, Minnesota Vikings – From one player who was taken in the early picks of the first round to another, Cook suffered a sprained shoulder in the Vikings week 12 loss to the 49ers and is slated to miss 1-2 weeks. Fortunately, Cook will be back just in time for the playoffs so owners will not have to worry about a lengthy absence. In the meantime, Alexander Mattison will fill for Cook as a surefire RB1 with two juicy matchups against the Lions and Steelers.
RB Melvin Gordon, Denver Broncos – The Broncos running back has been dealing with a hip injury this week that has slowed down his practice reps, ultimately listing him as doubtful for this week. If he’s unable to go, rookie Javonte Williams will be the bellcow for Week 13 against the Chiefs.
TE Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders – Waller has been dealing with a knee injury he picked up against the Cowboys. Waller was unable able to practice this week, prompting him to be ruled OUT for Week 13 against the Washington Football Team.
TE Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers – Freiermuth suffered a head injury during Sunday’s drubbing at the hands of the Bengals and now is in concussion protocol. The Steelers are already down Eric Ebron at the Tight End position and can’t afford any more losses at the skill position. They will need all the help they can get for a huge divisional showdown with the Ravens that could very well dictate their playoff chances.
WR Deebo Samuel, San Francisco 49ers – Samuel has officially been ruled OUT This week as he continues to deal with a groin injury he picked up against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12. He isn’t expected to miss a lot of time but fantasy managers may be without him for at least another week.
Other OUTs for Week 13:
Justin Fields (ribs)
Allen Robinson (hamstring)
D’Andre Swift (shoulder)
Trey Sermon (ankle)
